LOT # 3008 – 2022 KARMA GS-6 EV “305 EDITION” – SOLD TO BENEFIT SELFLESS LOVE FOUNDATION AND THE SLAM FOUNDATION – $700,000
There’s a reason Saturday is Super! From the moment gates opened on Day 8 of Barrett-Jackson’s 50th Anniversary celebration, tens of thousands of fans were treated to one of the greatest events in the automotive world — and there was no shortage of supercharged thrills and amazing automobiles!
The adrenaline-fueled action reached a fever pitch as fierce bidding pushed the sale of Lot #3009, the first retail production 70th anniversary edition of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette, VIN 001, to $3.7 million — all for a great cause, with 100% of the hammer price benefiting Operation Homefront. In an especially generous gesture, Michelle Mauzy, noted philanthropist and longtime member of the Barrett-Jackson family, donated an additional $100,000 to the nonprofit. Joining Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson on the block to introduce the vehicle was Brigadier General (Ret.) John Pray, president and CEO of Operation Homefront, which helps military families with housing, financial education and more.
An unparalleled docket of custom Resto-Mods, celebrity-owned muscle cars and rare and first-edition supercars crossed the world-famous block on Saturday. Lot #1389, a 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition with fewer than 20 actual miles, was the first vehicle to hit —and surpass —the million-dollar mark, selling for $1.65 million.
Sales continued to reach for the stars, with nine additional showstoppers joining the million-dollar club. Rounding out the Top 10 were Lot #1398, 2004 Porsche Carrera GT, $1.98 million; Lot #1415, 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, $1.87 million; Lot #1405, 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, $1.815 million; Lot #1413, 2014 McLaren P1, $1.705 million; $1.65 million; Lot #1419.1, 2019 McLaren Senna, $1,512,500; Lot #1417, 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition, $1.43 million; Lot #1399, 2020 Ford GT Carbon Series, $1.375 million; Lot #1413.1, 2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6X6 Brabus B63S 700, $1.21 million; and Lot #1397, 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 CSX 3356, $1.21 million.
In addition to record-breaking sales, a highlight of the day was a high-energy appearance on the block by internationally renowned Grammy Award-winning musician, producer and NASCAR racing team owner Pitbull. Mr. Worldwide stopped by to auction off a 2022 Karma GS-6 EV “305 Edition” (Lot #3008). Customized exclusively for the artist by California-based Karma Automotive, the sleek black luxury sedan sold for $500,000, with 100% of the funds benefiting the Selfless Love and SLAM! foundations, both of which aid children, and will help in the construction of a SLAM K-5 charter school in Mesa, AZ. Mrs. Mauzy also donated an additional $100,000 to each of the charities, bringing the total to $700,000.
Also selling for a good cause was Lot #3007, a 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone Hybrid Crewmax pickup VIN 001. The entire $700,000 sale price benefits the Toyota U.S. Paralympic Fund. Additionally, to encourage bidding on Lot #1403, a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Split-Window coupe, Barrett-Jackson friends Jen and Greg Holmes joined Craig on the auction block Saturday afternoon to announce that they would match the sale price of $500,000 with funds going to Barrett-Jackson Charities in support of the Driven Hearts campaign. Spearheaded by Barrett-Jackson’s Vice President of Brand Strategy Carolyn Jackson, Driven Hearts has raised millions of dollars and incredible awareness for the American Heart Association.
The Collector Car Auction started with the announcement of the Barrett-Jackson Cup winners. Nearly 50 incredible custom vehicles were hand-selected by members of the Barrett-Jackson team, the Top 5 finalists were chosen by hot rod builder Bobby Alloway and automobile designer and builder Troy Trepanier, and Barrett-Jackson on-air talent Rick DeBruhl announced the winners. The 1963½ Ford Galaxie, built and owned by Jason Graham Hot Rods from Portland, TN, received the People’s Choice Award, which was chosen by thousands of Barrett-Jackson and custom car fans, who voted online at BarrettJacksonCup.com. Taking the coveted prestigious Ultimate Best in Show Award — and a $20,000 prize — was a 1936 Ford Roadster, built by Pinkee’s Rod Shop in Windsor, CO, and owned by Bob Johnson of Gainesville, GA.
The Automobilia Auction fueled the day’s excitement and prepped the audience for the spirited bidding to come with hard-to-find pristine, colorful gas pumps, kiddie rides, marketing memorabilia and eye-catching neon signs. Iconic characters and rare porcelain neon signs drove sales with six-figure winning bids: Lot #9491, 1953 Ford Jubilee Neon Porcelain Sign, $460,000; Lot #9488.1, Late 1950s-Early 1960s Disneyland Donald Duck Ride, $172,500; Lot #9495.2, 1940s-50s Mobil Oil Porcelain Sign, $161,000; and Lot #9490.4, 1940s Flying A Service Neon Sign, $146,050.
When the last hammer of the day fell, dozens of sales records were shattered and more than 300 amazing vehicles went to new homes. Auction action and excitement like this can only be found at Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions!
