SUPER STARS AND RECORD-BREAKERS STORM THE AUCTION BLOCK AT DAY 7 OF BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE
January 20, 2017
Posted by Barrett-Jackson
The crowd in the Barrett-Jackson auction arena went wild as Steven Tyler came to the stage in his rare Hennessey Venom GT Spyder (Lot #3003), the sale of which raised $800,000 for the charity Janie’s Fund.
Despite the weather outside, it didn’t rain on Barrett-Jackson’s parade as some of the biggest names in music, sports and business made their way to the auction block today – along with nearly 400 fine collector cars and authentic pieces of automobilia.
The most-anticipated moment of the night didn’t disappoint: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler roared onto the stage in his rare 2012 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder (Lot #3003), which brought the house down when it sold for $800,000 – 100 percent of which will go to Tyler’s charity, Janie’s Fund, which brings hope and healing to girls who have suffered the trauma of abuse and neglect. To sweeten the pot, Tyler threw in a week’s stay at his house in Maui, as well as a guitar autographed by all the members of Aerosmith, which was donated by duPont Registry.

Two other cars for a cause crossed the block today – a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro COPO #001 (Lot #3002) and a 2017 Ford Raptor Pickup (Lot #3004), the last VIN produced for 2017 and done in a one-of-one color. The COPO, one of just 69 built, brought the hammer down for $175,000, all of which will benefit the United Way. Ford Motor Company President and CEO Mark Fields was on the block to auction off the new Raptor, which sold for $157,000 – with an additional $50,000 anonymous donation – for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Also onstage for the Raptor auction was the most decorated Olympian of all time, swimmer Michael Phelps.
The collector car auction saw multiple world records set again today, including a $143,000 sale for a 1967 Volkswagen 21-Window Deluxe Bus (Lot #1103). The day’s top seller was a 1970 Dodge Challenger Custom Coupe (Lot #1080), which sold for $220,000.
