It was another incredible Barrett-Jackson moment when the first 2017 Ford GT to sell with No Reserve at auction brought in $1.54 million, with Ford GT Le Mans-winning driver Joey Hand (center) onstage to encourage bidding.
Another Ford GT – this one a very special 2005 model – crossed the auction block to benefit JDRF, bringing in $270,000 to the important organization.
Barrett-Jackson roared into Las Vegas on Thursday and finished with the pedal to the metal, highlighted by the highly anticipated sale of the very first 2017 Ford GT to be offered at auction with No Reserve. The sleek ’66 Heritage Edition model, which pays homage to the 1966 Le Mans-winning GT40 Mark II, started a fast and furious bidding war. With the crowd in the auction arena cheering wildly, the gavel fell – and the GT will be going home with the lucky winning bidder for $1.54 million. An added bonus for the new owner: Ford GT Le Mans-winning driver Joey Hand, who was onstage for the sale, signed the car!
The spectacular 2017 GT led a field of 240 more incredible collector cars across the stage on Saturday, with other top sellers including a 2019 Ferrari 488 Spider that sold for $368,500 (a new auction record), a 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider ($330,000), a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition and a 2005 Ford GT (each selling for $324,500),and a 1953 Chevrolet Corvette convertible from the Jim Ostermann Collection, which brought in $275,000.
Another significant Ford GT to cross the auction block on Saturday was the third charity car of the 2019 Las Vegas Auction. Never before sold to the public, the 2005 Ford GT – which led a Shelby Challenge race, was driven by racing stars and was used to develop racing components – sold for $270,000 to benefit JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.
The top-selling automobilia item Saturday was this Chevrolet Super Service neon sign, which brought in $37,950.
Another 14 record sales at auction were set during the final day of the 12th Annual Las Vegas Auction, including a beautiful 1950 Ford F-1 custom pickup that sold for $110,000, a 1980 Land Rover Defender 110 custom SUV that brought in $83,600, and a 1952 GMC custom pickup that went to its new home for $82,500.
Barrett-Jackson’s Automobilia Auction finished strong, with bidders clearly impressed with the selection of colorful neon signs lighting up the arena. The top seller of the day (and of the auction) was an exemplary Chevrolet Super Service neon porcelain sign from the 1940s-50s, which brought in $37,950. Also among the top sellers Saturday were Phillips 66 and Piggly Wiggly neon signs from the 1950s, which sold for $25,300 and $19,550 respectively, and a customized Texaco Gas Station Island that went to one lucky bidder for $16,675.
A 100-percent No Reserve auction, with every one of the nearly 700 vehicles that went across the famous Barrett-Jackson block going home with a new owner, the 2019 Las Vegas Auction was one to remember!
