2018 McLaren 720S

Lot 748 - 2018 McLaren 720S_front34At the 11th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Sept. 27-29, high-end supercars will be part of the incredibly diverse docket.

Included in the Las Vegas auction will be the latest and greatest from British boutique automaker McLaren, maker of some of the world’s finest, no-compromise high-performance vehicles, along with its championship-winning Formula One cars.

Specifically, Barrett-Jackson will auction an almost brand-new 2018 McLaren 720S (Lot #748), which will sell at No Reserve in Las Vegas. Top bidder gets it, period.

Lot 748 - 2018 McLaren 720S_detailMake no mistake about it, this 2018 McLaren 720S, which has been driven just 319 miles, is a true world-class sports car, combining electrifying performance, gorgeous looks and a pedigree from one of the world’s top sports-car makers.

The specifications tell the story. The McLaren 720S is a two-seat, mid-engined sports car powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 710 horsepower and 568 ft/lbs of torque. That smooth and stout powerplant connects to a 7-speed McLaren dual-clutch automatic Seamless Shift gearbox.

Thanks in large part to the extensive use of carbon fiber, the 720S weighs just 2,917 pounds ‒ exactly 200 pounds lighter than the miniscule 2018 Honda Civic Type R.

Lot 748 - 2018 McLaren 720S_sideWith that combination of light weight and high horsepower, the 720S is understandably a rocket ship. It accelerates from 0-62 miles per hour in a mere 2.9 seconds and 0-124 mph in 7.8 seconds, with a top speed of 212 mph. Accelerating from a standing start produces a quarter-mile time of 10.3 seconds.

Motor Trend said the McLaren 720S was one of the quickest cars they’ve ever tested, faster than a $1 million-plus Bugatti Veyron or a Lamborghini Aventador. “For what it’s worth, the 720S can hit 100 mph in 5.3 seconds. … Absurd,” Motor Trend reported. “Thankfully, the world has gone mad.”

Lot 748 - 2018 McLaren 720S_speedoIn addition to the remarkable performance, this McLaren 720S is heavily optioned, led by the McLaren Performance Package, sports exhaust with extensive MSO (McLaren Special Operations) factory additions, with carbon-fiber trim throughout the interior, including the MSO steering wheel and paddles.

The twin electric-heated memory seats are trimmed in black Alcantara and leather. Other features include soft-close doors, navigation, Bluetooth, HomeLink system, climate control, Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker audio system, park assist, LED headlights and an automatic vehicle-lift system.

The exterior is as stunning as it is sinister. This McLaren was spec’d out in special-order Black Amethyst paint, with carbon-fiber mirror arms, rear-deck engine covers, sill panel, diffuser and aero bridge.

Lot 748 - 2018 McLaren 720S_rear34Featured are factory cast-alloy wheels finished in Stealth, fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and carbon-ceramic brakes.

With its light weight, perfect balance and low center of gravity, the 720S handles and brakes every bit as well as it accelerates. It delivers the high-performance ceiling owners have come to expect from McLaren.

And that’s not just our word, either.

Car and Driver was quite smitten with the 720S. “It’s a technical tour de force, a towering achievement of what we’re going to describe as McLaren-ness: the make-it-better, make-it-faster ethos that has guided the brand since its foundation more than five decades ago,” the magazine raved.

“We just can’t get enough of McLaren’s most potent Super Series vehicle,” Autoweek added.

Lot 748 - 2018 McLaren 720S_interiorKelley Blue Book, meanwhile, praised the 720S for its luxurious interior. “Although riveting performance is the car’s forte, the new McLaren 720S also features a cabin that matches additional space and better sightlines with superior levels of comfort and convenience,” the publication wrote on its website.

Without question, the 2018 McLaren 720S is a world-class supercar, combining amazing performance, a plethora of high-tech driver-assist features and a comfortable cockpit. If you’ve ever dreamt of owning your own supercar, this is a tremendous opportunity to do just that, only at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas.
