Collector cars are at the heart of any Barrett-Jackson event and a full docket of collector vehicles kept the auction arena energized on Tuesday, January 24. One of the most exciting moments of the night was when back-to-back Cadillacs, Lot 179 and 179.1, a 1970 De Ville convertible and a 1969 Coupe De Ville convertible, respectively, each sold for $110,000; both setting new auction world records.

The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions set over a dozen new auction world records on day four of the nine-day event. Among the most notable included a 1959 Ford Country sedan, a 1956 Nash Rambler Cross Country, a 1987 Ford Bronco SUV and a 1999 Jeep Wrangler custom SUV.

Auction vehicles aren’t the only thing that moves fast around here – NASCAR drivers Erik Jones and Ross Chastain each joined Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, on the auction podium.

Today continued the incredible attendance that the auction has experienced since opening day, which saw its highest attendance for an opening weekend in the auction company’s history.

“After the incredible year we experienced in 2022, breaking hundreds of world auction records and shattering our own previous sales records, it’s incredible to see this level of enthusiasm from the hobby as we kicked off our 2023 Scottsdale Auction this weekend,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Our opening weekend saw the highest attendance we’ve ever welcomed at WestWorld over the first two days of our event, and I can’t wait to see what this week’s action brings.”

The first of the complimentary collector car symposiums was held today, providing guests with a look behind the hobby with the discussion about predicting future collectibles. Speakers included Sean Morris from Toprank International Vehicle Importers, Jim Pickering and Jay Harden from Linkage Magazine, Sam Stockham of Mortgage Pros and Tyson Hugie from The Journal at ClassicCars.com.

Each day the auction starts with the sale of some colorful, eye-catching and in-demand automotive memorabilia on the block during the morning’s Automobilia Auction.

The morning’s top seller was Lot #8387, a 1920s-30s Red Hat Motor Oil dial thermometer, which sold for $65,550. Additional top sellers were a 1957 Mobil Oil right-facing Pegasus porcelain with animated neon sign (Lot #8499.1) that sold for $57,500, a 1970s Road Runner embossed sign with animated neon (Lot #8495.3) selling for $51,750, a large early 1950s Oldsmobile neon porcelain sign (Lot #8492.4) for $46,000 and a 1940s Time Gasoline porcelain sign (Lot #8295) that sold for $40,250. Rounding out Tuesday’s Automobilia Auction highlights was a 1960s Gulf Oil animated neon porcelain sign (Lot #8495) that brought $40,250.
