With the 13th Annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction upon us, we are once again celebrating a legendary four-wheeled star. For this event, his name is “Herbie” (Lot #394) – one of the most beloved movie cars of all time. The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company has a long and storied history of bringing movie cars to market with some exciting and colorful cars representing blockbuster films. The “Fast and Furious” franchise is perhaps the most powerful collection of automotive-based action films, with millions of adoring fans lining up to watch seven chapters on the silver screen. We’re saddened by the loss of Paul Walker, one of the lead characters, who died tragically in a car crash on November 30, 2013. His spirit lives on, in part within the movie cars that he drove throughout the filming.
Some of the greatest movie cars in Hollywood history have crossed the Barrett-Jackson auction block. Here are just a few.

“THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS TOKYO DRIFT” – 1970 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER CUSTOM: A well-known car amongst pro-touring enthusiasts, this 528 HEMI-powered 1970 Road Runner Custom known as “Hammer” went on to make an appearance at the end of “The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift.”

“HERBIE” – 1963 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE SUNROOF CUSTOM: One of the most beloved movie cars of all time, this “Herbie” Beetle was featured in the movie “Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo.”

“Fast Five” – 1969 DODGE CHARGER CUSTOM: 1968-1970 Chargers have always been popular in film. This car has appeared in two chapters of the “Fast and Furious” franchise as Dominic Torretto’s street racer.

“XXX MOVIE CAR” – 1967 PONTIAC GTO CUSTOM: Vin Diesel gets to drive some exciting cars in his movies, including this radically customized GTO. Built by Eddie Paul of E.P. Industries, this car was autographed by Vin Diesel.

“2 FAST 2 FURIOUS” 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO YENKO RE-CREATION: This car was driven by the late Paul Walker in his recurring role as Brian O’Connor in this second installment of wildly popular “Fast & Furious” franchise.

“CHRISTINE” – 1958 PLYMOUTH FURY: Stephen King’s “Christine” featured an angry, vindictive 1958 Plymouth Fury that would mow you down if crossed. She could also heal herself if damaged. Not a bad trait to have in a car!

**2001 MITSUBISHI EVO CUSTOM “2 FAST 2 FURIOUS”: **Protagonist Brian O’Connor, played by the late Paul Walker, was given this Lancer Evolution VII as part of his undercover mission in “2 Fast 2 Furious.”

**“NEED FOR SPEED” 2013 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK: **Capitalizing on the runaway success of the “Need for Speed” video game franchise, this heavily customized Mustang sold at No Reserve for charity, with proceeds benefitting the Henry Ford Health System.

“TWO LANE BLACKTOP” – 1955 CHEVROLET CUSTOM: James Taylor and the Beach Boys’ Dennis Wilson starred in “Two-Lane Blacktop” as drag-racing drifters who traverse America in search of their next victory.

“FIREBALL 500” – 1965 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA CUSTOM: In this classic, Frankie Avalon is a stock car racer who plays into the hands of whiskey runners by agreeing to drive in a cross-country road race. His assistants? Annette Funicello, of course – and another teen idol of the day, Fabian.

“GONE IN 60 SECONDS – ELEANOR” 1967 FORD MUSTANG: This Shelby GT500 was one of 11 built for the 2000 action-packed film “Gone in Sixty Seconds,” starring Nicolas Cage as a retired master car thief who must come back into the industry and steal 50 cars in one night to save his brother’s life.

“DRIVING MISS DAISY” 1949 HUDSON COMMODORE 8: Morgan Freeman as Hoke Colburn faithfully drove Jessica Tandy (Miss Daisy) in this beautiful car, one of the pivotal vehicles in the film about an unlikely friendship, which spanned two decades.

“IRON MAN” MOVIE – 1965 SHELBY COBRA RE-CREATION ROLLING CHASSIS: This car was seen many times throughout the 2008 film starring Robert Downey Jr., but it was undoubtedly the scene where Iron Man falls through the roof of his house right onto the beautiful Cobra that horrified car lovers everywhere.
