The second day of Barrett-Jackson’s 10th Annual Las Vegas Auction continued to see collector car enthusiasts stream into the vast auction site to experience everything the unique automotive lifestyle event has to offer. The Dodge Thrill Rides continued to be a big draw outside, while indoors the hundreds of gleaming collector cars and dozens of exhibitors attracted large crowds.

The Clarion Builds team - led by Paul Lachner (second from right) - celebrate the $135,000 sale of their 1991 Acura NSX (Lot #3002) to benefit the American Red Cross.

The big attraction, of course, was the auction arena itself. The morning began with more than 100 pristine pieces of automobilia on the auction block, where the big winner was a stunning 1928 Phillips 66 visible gas pump that sold for $22,425. Neon dealership signs also did well, with three landing in the top five sales for the day, and an exquisite Chris Craft “Woody” speed boat coin-operated kiddie ride from the 1950s brought in $10,925.

Then the collector cars began to roll – nearly 300 vehicles polished to perfection for their moment of fame on the Barrett-Jackson block. Highlights of the day were two cars that were auctioned for charity, with all fees waived, so that 100% of the hammer price went to the special causes chosen by those who donated the vehicles.

The entire WelderUp/Vegas Rat Rods "family" - including Steve Darnell, Joe Giamanco and his son Preston Giamanco - with Lot #3003, the "Cancer Car" that sold for $65,000 to benefit TGen's Children's Cancer Research Fund.

The entire WelderUp/Vegas Rat Rods “family” – including Steve Darnell, Joe Giamanco and his son Preston Giamanco – as well as Craig Jackson and TGen Foundation President Michael Bassoff, with Lot #3003, the “Cancer Car” that sold for $65,000 to benefit TGen’s Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

First up was a sleek blue 1991 Acura NSX Custom Coupe (Lot #3002), given new life by the talented team at Clarion Builds with a proper nut-and-bolt restoration and tasteful upgrades that brought this car to modern supercar spec. Featuring more than 400 supercharged horses and lots of impressive upgrades, the NSX hammered for $135,000, all of which will go to the American Red Cross.

The second charity car was truly unique. Known as the “Cancer Car,” Lot #3003 was hand-built by Steve Darnell, owner of WelderUp car shop and star of the reality TV show “Vegas Rat Rods,” to honor a young boy battling kidney cancer: the son of WelderUp shop manager Joe Giamanco. Giamanco and his son Preston were on hand to watch as the hammer came down on $65,000, all of which will go to the TGen Foundation for its Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

Top seller of the day was a low-mileage 2016 Ford F-350 Custom Pickup (Lot #448), which went to its new home for $110,000. Two other notable sales were a 1982 Chevrolet Blazer (Lot #362.1) with just over 13,000 original miles and Lot #415, a 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special (Lot #415) used in the film “Driving Miss Daisy.” Each vehicle sold for $44,000 – a world record for that year, make and model at a public auction.
