When my father, Russ Jackson, and fellow car collector Tom Barrett produced their first auction over 40 years ago in Scottsdale, Ariz., the philosophy to benefit others was at the heart of the event. They chose to honor the Scottsdale Public Library with the proceeds, and this first collaboration instilled a responsibility within the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company to help worthy causes and people in need.
At this 6th annual Las Vegas auction, the tradition remains at the forefront with the Craig Jackson Foundation donating several thousand dollars to various local charities. I invite you to join us at the auction to show your support for those in need of our help.
This Las Vegas event will also mark an important change for the auction broadcasts. Starting on Thursday, September 26, there will be 22 hours of live coverage on three networks: FOX Sports 1 (formerly SPEED), FOX Sports 2 (formerly FUEL TV) and the National Geographic Channel. This groundbreaking change in coverage will bring the auction to nearly 100 million homes. I wholeheartedly applaud all of our new spectators plus the die-hard fans from our previous 17 years of coverage on SPEED.
As with every auction, the cars are at the center of the show. Take a cruise through the Baysides to preview a special selection of cars that will cross the auction block at our January 2014 Scottsdale event. This preview highlights the Salon cars, which are specifically chosen to make and break world records.
Of course, the Las Vegas docket certainly offers several cars that are expected to shake things up, including Lot #730, a 1966 Shelby GT350H Fastback. We are also introducing the Select Collection that showcases Lot #742, a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing; Lot #739, a beautiful 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC; and more.
In our last five years in Las Vegas, we have witnessed a steady growth of collector car bidders, consignors and fans in this dazzling city. Our sixth year here promises to offer a continuation of the excitement that Barrett-Jackson is known for.
Join us — whether it be on the block, in the stands or in front of your television, I personally welcome you to The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM.
