SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.Jan. 13, 2011 The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, in partnership with SPEED, will bring the excitement of the auction block to living rooms across the country during the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, Jan. 17 – 23. Barrett-Jackson will continue a popular feature introduced at the company’s 2010 Las Vegas auction by selling eight “timed lot” vehicles at peak hours of SPEED’s auction coverage. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the company, SPEED will broadcast 40 hours of live HD coverage, kicking off more than 100 hours of total live television coverage scheduled for Barrett-Jackson auction events in 2011.

“While it’s impossible to know exactly what time a home run will be hit or when a touchdown will be scored, we’re going to give people the opportunity to know when to tune in to see each of these eight special cars cross the block,” explained Craig Jackson, chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We will offer this opportunity once each day from Tuesday through Thursday, and twice per day on Friday and Saturday.”

“With more than 1,200 cars spread across the six auction days, we have an action-packed schedule that doesn’t always enable our television viewers to really get to know these cars the way our onsite auction participants can,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “We selected a few vehicles to feature in these timed lots so viewers will know exactly when to tune in see them cross the block. These cars represent a broad cross section of the collector car hobby and they each have an interesting back story of their own. We will be bringing these stories to light during our SPEED coverage as we feature each of the cars during segments throughout the week.”

Tuesday, Jan. 18, the group of timed lot numbers will kick off at 7 p.m. MST with a 1969 American Motors AMX coupe (Lot #6900). This AMX features all of its original body panels and recently underwent its first and only restoration. The “Big Bad Orange” exterior covers the charcoal interior, which received a complete restoration using Legendary Interior components. The 390cid engine and automatic transmission were not altered. The vehicle is ready to be driven off the block by any serious gearhead.

Following the ’69 AMX coupe, is a 1958 Buick Caballero station wagon (Lot #4210) scheduled to be auctioned live on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. MST. The ’58 station wagon is dressed in excellent chrome and has received a complete new interior. The 364cid V8 4-speed transmission generates up to 300 horsepower.

“This segment of the collector car hobby has really been gaining steam, and this Reef Coral ’58 Buick stands out in a crowd,” noted Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “The limited production of these vehicles means few are still available today, making it very rare.”

Thursday, Jan. 20, will host (Lot #7120), a 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback, at 7 p.m. MST. The Mustang is a time capsule of its era with less than 5,200 original miles. Excluding the battery, this vehicle still has all its original equipment. Documentation for the Mustang, including the owner card, original window sticker, original buyer’s order, original 8-Track demo tape still in the original cellophane, a 1968 Ford license plate and promotional material from the original year, accompany the car to the auction block. The Mustang features a 302-4V engine, GT equipment group, knitted vinyl seats, Cruise-o-Matic, sport deck rear seat, console, air conditioner, Stereosonic 8-track tape player, AM radio, front headrests, tachometer and trip odometer and special order factory Kelsey Hayes wire wheels.

“This beautiful Mustang is an amazing example of a low mileage, original car that has been pampered and well preserved,” added Davis. “We see thousands of cars in consignment applications each year, but this one immediately caught my attention when it crossed my desk. Besides the obvious appeal of this car in its own right, it happens to be one that was in my own collection until I sold it as a consignor at Barrett-Jackson in the 1980s. This is one of my favorite Mustangs, and I can’t wait to see it cross the auction block to begin the next chapter of its life.”

Friday, Jan. 21, will feature two unique vehicles at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. MST. The first timed vehicle of the day is a 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible (Lot #9580) that was professionally restored by Patrick’s Classy Cars of Phoenix, Ariz., and comes with an elegant Aegean Turquoise color combination. The rare ’58 Impala is loaded with options, including a 348cid V8 engine with triple carburetion, dual exhaust, power steering, power brakes, power windows, a Continental kit, dual rear antennas, spinner hubcaps and much more.

Four hours later, a 1971 Buick GS455 convertible (Lot #10100) will cross the block. The ’71 Buick has undergone an off-frame rotisserie restoration. It features a 455cid V8, 4-speed transmission, factory air and AM/FM radio. The cowl tag reveals the exterior color is Fire Red Code 75, with a Code 168 black bucket seat interior and a Code B black convertible top.

“This is the first time the vehicle will be offered for sale since its restoration,” noted Gary Bennett, vice president of consignments at Barrett-Jackson. “The new owner will be impressed with the overall finish and appearance of this vehicle.”

Two vehicles will also be sold at specific times on Saturday, Jan. 22. A 1961 Chevrolet Impala custom two-door hardtop (Lot #12580) will be sold at 3 p.m. MST. Called “Project Cheemer,” this Candy Green Impala is the product of a five year build. The car is powered by a BMW V12 engine. The Chevy was featured in numerous magazines around the world in editorial and advertising pieces. The award-winning vehicle was voted Best Car in Sweden, received a Boyd Coddington Memorial Award, John D’agostino Award, Outstanding Engineering and Class Awards at the Grand National Roadster show and Sacramento Autorama, as well as being asked to display at the invite-only Blackie’s Fresno Autorama.

Following the “Project Cheemer,” is a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot #12950) that will be sold at 7 p.m. MST. The Boss 429 was restored by Kevin’s Klassic Cars and has only 219 actual miles on the odometer. The original title, owner card and build sheet will accompany the car to auction and the title is still in the original owner’s name. The white on black Mustang comes rust-free after sitting on a flat-bed truck for more than 37 years. The team at Kevin’s completely dismantled the vehicle, put it on a rotisserie and media-blasted. Following the restoration, the team put the car back together exactly the way it came from the factory. The A-arms are dipped in black paint similar to the work done by the factory.

“The inner aprons retain their original VIN numbers and the VIN on the dash has never been removed,” explained Davis. “It’s incredible that this Boss 429 comes to the auction with such low mileage. It will definitely be a show-stopper on Saturday.”

Wrapping up the week of timed lot numbers is a 1957 Mercury Montclair convertible (Lot #15700), scheduled for 3 p.m. MST on Sunday, Jan. 23. The yellow and black Mercury has been housed in a garage since 1963 in Southern California and comes with the original paint and drivetrain. The only parts of the vehicle that were replaced are the convertible top, tires and brakes.

“These special cars will be grouped together in our Showcase Pavilion at the auction site,” continued Davis. “We invite all collector car fans to come out and see the cars in person before hearing their stories on SPEED during live coverage of the auction.”
