SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 14, 2011 – “The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM” will sell more than 1,200 vehicles at No Reserve during its 40th anniversary celebration Jan. 17-23, at WestWorld of Scottsdale. SPEED will broadcast an unprecedented 40 hours of live HD auction coverage to honor the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.

“Our 40th annual automotive lifestyle event in Scottsdale will be the epicenter of the car collecting hobby in January,” noted Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We’ve been planning this celebration for the past year and look forward to the exciting group of vehicles that will cross the auction block. Our bidders will be pleased with the outstanding assortment of vehicles, from classics to Hot Rods and exotics.”

The Classics

Barrett-Jackson was originally known for offering some of the greatest classics and pre-war vehicles in the hobby when the company first opened its doors four decades ago. Today, this reputation holds true. At the anniversary celebration, all of the vehicles will attract bidders interested in owning a piece of automotive heritage.

A perfect example of a California dream car is a 1941 Packard 110 Woody Wagon (Lot #1261) that will catch the attention of any collector who loves this era. It went through a complete restoration in 2001 and is now in prime condition. The vehicle is stunning in Packard Maroon paint, beautifully refinished original wood and nicely trimmed tan interior with proper wool carpeting.

Hot Rods Heat Up Barrett-Jackson

The highly recognizable “Silver Dollar” pickup that scorched the California drag scene in the late 1960’s was owned, built and driven by Mike Bamber of Escondido, Calif. This 1941 Willys Americar Silver Dollar drag pickup (Lot #1260.4) sports a 340cid engine built from a Chevrolet 283cid block.

Lot #1292 is a 1929 Ford five-window custom coupe, a different take on a traditional Hot Rod. This Hot Rod project was started by Boyd Coddington, famous for his custom-designed wheels as well as his world-class builds. The car was nearing completion when Coddington died in 2008. After Coddington’s death, the car was sent to Jeff Eischen’s shop in Ohio for completion. Eischen’s talents brought the car from project status to show-ready completion, and his handiwork adds to the car’s luster.

From the garage of Wayne Halabura is a 1932 Ford Custom Roadster (Lot #1309). This sleek silver over terra cotta roadster is made from custom parts, but it retains its basic identity as a ’32 Ford. The car received three awards at the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster Show in 2010, including Outstanding Engineering, Achievement Award and Outstanding Paint.

A 1936 Ford Custom Station Wagon (Lot #1245.2) is a rare, all-steel, all-Ford parts Hot Rod. The wood is in excellent condition and the vehicle options include a third seat, original radio and clock in working condition, banjo steering wheel, side curtains, factory spare tire cover and greyhound. It is a period correct “Nostalgia Hot Rod.”

Also offered at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event is the famous “WOODN8R” (Lot #1275). Designed by Jimmy C. Kustoms and shown at numerous events, this 1950 Ford Country Squire Custom Woody Wagon is currently owned by the guitarist of the “Eliminators” who helped redefine modern surf music. Debuted at the 2008 SEMA show in Las Vegas, the WOODN8R was the result of a three-year frame-off restoration project. The WOODN8R is the perfect California car to drive down any coastal highway.

Known as the “Cool Cat,” a 1969 Mercury Cougar custom convertible (Lot #1274.1) was created by renowned Hot Rod builder Hot Rod Express. The body of the Cougar is the only original part of the car. Every element of this Mercury was carefully designed, created, picked and fabricated. The custom was featured in multiple magazines and has won many awards, including the Goodguys Top 5 Award, Roush Racing Award, Ford in a Ford Award and the ISCA Top Show Winner, just to name a few.

Custom Creations

Many vehicles that cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block have been customized to increase their desirability or drivability. A 1961 Chevrolet Impala custom two-door hardtop (Lot #12580) is a prime example. The internationally famous “Cheemer” (Chevy + Beemer) is a meticulously engineered melding of classic American styling and big-time German power. Beneath the sleek sheetmetal lies a BMW V12, teamed with a BMW automatic transmission. The Cheemer’s build was chronicled in the pages of “Wheels Magazine” and has been featured in many other publications. It was also introduced on “Jay Leno’s Garage.”

Cool Corvettes

Originally built in 1953 in Flint, Mich., the Corvette was introduced as a classy and luxurious sports car. Today, more than 50 years later, the Corvette still holds its title as one of the best Chevrolet models ever built.

Lot #1256 is a 1971 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with only 19,542 original miles. The vehicle comes documented right down to the bill of sale with the mileage affidavit from the original owner to the second owner. Other documents include, but are not limited to, the original Protect-O-Plate with the warranty card signed by the original salesman, the original owner’s manual and sales brochures, original service records documenting the mileage through the years and the original copies of the Arizona registration documenting ownership.

Noted Corvette collector Dave Ressler will sell a pair of collectible Corvettes together at the auction. His 1953 Chevrolet Corvette (Lot #1293) has won numerous awards, including Triple Crown Award, Bloomington Gold Award, NCRS Top Flight Award and the Gold Spinner Award. A 2003 Chevrolet Corvette (Lot #1293.1) was built in honor of the ’53 Corvette and wears the same colors and matching VIN.

Another collector will sell a pair of Corvettes separately. A 1967 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #1289) features a 427cid engine that generates up to 435 horsepower. It was body-off restored and has the original tanker sticker. A 1966 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #1289.1) can produce 450 horsepower with its 427cid engine and has earned three NCRS Top Flight Awards.

Detroit Heavy Metal

During the early ‘60s, the “Big Three” Detroit giants were in full swing. As the decade began, automotive companies rejected the 1950s styling excess and welcomed new models.

The 1962 Ford Falcon custom (Lot #1281) was built by Ken Thompson, a fabricator at Holman-Moody who created the Challenger III, and is a tribute to the Holman-Moody Challenger Falcon program. The ’62 Falcon has a midnight black exterior to match its stylish black interior and features all handmade body panels.

Muscle Power

The late ‘60s and early ‘70s introduced the muscle car battles between the top dogs of Detroit. The Ford Mustang was battling the Chevrolet Camaro or Chevelle and Plymouth ‘Cuda. Each automotive manufacturer wanted more power under the hood and better performance, whether it was on the road or the drag strip.

The Chevelle SS was Chevrolet’s entry into the muscle car wars. Barrett-Jackson will sell a first-generation 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS Z16 (Lot #1265). The ultra rare Chevelle is one of 201 produced, with approximately 74 still in existence. This car is listed in the Z16 Registry as the third car made and the first red on red Z16 produced. Generating up to 375 horsepower, this Chevelle is ready to be driven hard.

To compete with its bowtie rival, Ford introduced the BOSS Mustangs for two short years. A 1969 Ford Mustang BOSS 429 Fastback (Lot #12950) will cross the block with only 219 miles. The Mustang comes with the original title in the original owner’s name and original build sheet. This muscle car even comes with the matching numbers engine. Restored by Kevin’s Klassic Cars, this vehicle will be the centerpiece of any collector’s garage.

An outstanding example of a third-generation ‘Cuda will represent the Chrysler Corporation in these “muscle wars” at Barrett-Jackson. A red on black 1970 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda two-door hardtop offered as Lot #1313 was documented by Galen Govier and is number 403 of 421 in Galen’s Registry. The matching numbers ‘Cuda is an excellent restoration of a signature Mopar muscle car.

The One-off Originals

From original muscle power to unique one-off rides, Barrett-Jackson will present vehicles from all walks of life. Barrett-Jackson will introduce the only V7 twin turbo mid-engine 1963 Chevrolet Corvette coupe (Lot #1306) in existence. Winner of the coveted GM Design Award, this car generates up to 1,000 horsepower with its twin turbo engines. The V7 prototype launches zero to 60 in the three-second club. Black leather wraps the original Stingray dash humps that are equipped with Autometer gauges. The cabin is fitted with race style seating from Cobra and a full Crow harness system. All this magic rolls on custom HRE wheels clad with Michelin’s widest rubber. For the Corvette lover, this vehicle is a must have. No other creation from Chevrolet matches this ride.

A GM one-of-a-kind concept car from the early ‘50s will also be available to the highest bidder. A 1953 Buick Skylark (Lot #1299) was originally produced by Buick to test public interest of the Skylark hardtop. While most concept cars are usually retained by GM or crushed, the wife of the general manager of Buick loved the vehicle so much she purchased it for personal use. This vehicle comes with every option available, plus trunk mounted factory air conditioning, foot controlled signal seeking radio and the Skylark chrome knock-off wire wheels.

A 1952 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn Mercia Conversion prototype (Lot #1263.1) will also catch the attention of collectors. This magnificent two-passenger Rolls-Royce roadster was designed to recapture the joy of motoring in the classic style, while leaving behind difficulties usually associated with the vintage automobile. The car was the only one ever built from a Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn. It has an aluminum body by Wilkinson of Derby, England, with the undersides of the fenders sprayed in fiberglass mat to prevent stone damage.

Traveling in Pairs

A father and son duo will sell two vehicles separately in Scottsdale. Patrick Pogrant will sell a 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible (Lot #9580) and Jeffery Pogrant will auction a 1971 Buick GS455 convertible (Lot #10100). The Impala is a 280 horsepower, hydraulic-lifter version, with dual exhaust, a 3-speed manual transmission with shifter on the column and a posi-traction rear end. The Buick is one of just 902 Buick GS convertibles built for ’71.

Bob Adams will sell his twin 1954 Kaiser Darrins from Lot #1283 and Lot #1283.1. The Kaiser Darrin convertible (Lot #1283) with yellow exterior and white interior is an excellent example of the brand. Only the last 20 cars were fitted with special white interiors, adding to the collectability of this car. The green Kaiser Darrin convertible (Lot #1283.1) features a light green interior with leather seating services.

A pair of Trans Ams will travel together to the stage. A 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Bandit Special Edition coupe (Lot #1302) and a 1977 Firebird Trans Am Bandit Special Edition coupe (Lot #1302.1) will be sold as a pair. The ’80 Firebird has less than 800 original miles and is a very rare, low production Special Edition “Y84” Trans Am. The ’77 Firebird is a PHS documented “Y82″ Trans Am with the original Hurst hatch t-tops.

From land to sea, Barrett-Jackson will have a dynamic group of vehicles available for bidders. A 2010 Marine Technology Inc. Catamaran custom 44’ performance boat (Lot #1303) will arrive on a 2006 American Tilt custom trailer (Lot #1303.1) along with a colors-matching 2008 Chevrolet Corvette LE Z06 coupe (Lot #1303.2). All three will be sold together as a group. This limited edition Corvette was one of 427 built and delivered in North America. It is the only 2008 Z06 available in Crystal Red Metallic and matches the Crystal Red performance boat.
