Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega honors Craig Jackson and Barrett-Jackson’s 50th Anniversary by proclaiming January 2022 as “Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction Month.”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ‒ December 27, 2021 – As Barrett-Jackson, “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions,” looks ahead to its 50th anniversary celebration and the 2022 Scottsdale Auction, January 22-30, Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega has proclaimed the entire month of January 2022 as “Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction Month” to recognize the auction company’s half-century-long commitment to the community. This will mark the first time in Barrett-Jackson history that the mayor’s proclamation spans the entire month.

Before Barrett-Jackson Auction Company was formed in 1971, its founding members, Tom Barrett and Russ Jackson set the stage for the organization’s commitment to the community of Scottsdale when it first held the Fiesta de los Autos Elegantes in 1967 to raise funds for the local Scottsdale library and the community arts center. Following Barrett-Jackson’s first auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale in 1989, Scottsdale Mayor Herb Drinkwater issued a proclamation recognizing that special week in January to be known as “Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction Week,” thus beginning a proclamation tradition that every Scottsdale mayor has continued.

“We have received tremendous support over many years from the City of Scottsdale, beginning in the late 1960s when my father Russ and his business partner Tom Barrett first held the Fiesta de los Autos Elegantes,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We have continued to enjoy an incredible relationship with the City’s leadership over the years and we are proud to call Scottsdale our home. It is an honor to receive Mayor Ortega’s month-long proclamation, a first in our history, and we are thrilled to once again bring the national and international spotlight on Scottsdale for another exciting event as we celebrate 50 years of The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions.”

“Congratulations on the success and longevity of ‘The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions,’” remarked Mayor David D. Ortega. “I’ve attended with my family and friends for decades and each year tops the last.”

The annual Scottsdale Auction has hosted many of the most electrifying moments in collector car history over the last 50 years. The 2022 Scottsdale Auction will celebrate many of those milestones and memories while delivering an action-packed automotive lifestyle event highlighted by one of the most spectacular dockets ever seen, all at No Reserve. With incredible vehicles such as a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing and a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, along with celebrity icons such as Pitbull and Bret Michaels selling vehicles to support charitable initiatives closest to their hearts, the 2022 event will provide an excellent commencement for the next 50 years of Barrett-Jackson’s history in Scottsdale.
