Details

This authentic matching-numbers 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS L34 convertible is a great example of a limited-production American muscle car. It was certified by Chevelle expert Chris White of Concours Concepts on April 12, 2024, and the full report is included. From the information gathered, the total number of 1970 Chevelle SS 396 convertibles with the RPO L34 engine was approximately 1,100, which make it a very limited model. This example was produced on the fourth week of April 1970 at the Baltimore, MD, factory. This example retains its original Build Sheet, original VIN tag, original Trim Tag, original exterior color, original interior color, original engine, original transmission, original rear end, original owner's manual, original dealership car papers folder and key chain. As documented, it was originally sold to Thomas R. Darragh, who lived in Baldwin Place, NY. The selling dealership was Fisher Bros. Chevrolet in Mahopac, NY. In the 1990s the car received a new paint job in its original color and a new convertible top. During that timeframe it also received a new windshield and door glass. The car remained in New York until it was purchased in 2019 by its last caretaker, who lives in Chester, NJ. The car was in very original condition. Over the last five years the last caretaker restored the interior and engine compartment and replaced miscellaneous parts throughout. The exterior of this Chevelle is striking with its iconic body style and gorgeous color combination. From the information gathered, it retains all its original sheet metal. It was refinished in its original exterior color of Fathom Blue with white stripes. The paint was recently detailed by to a show-quality finish. The white convertible power top fits very nicely. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced. The car sits on 14-inch Super Sport wheels wrapped in Firestone Wide Oval 70-14 tires. The interior of this Chevelle is also striking and complements the exterior perfectly. It was refinished by the previous caretaker in its original and seldom-seen color of Metallic Medium Blue. The front and rear bench seats were reupholstered with replacement springs and padding. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced. The lightly restored trunk compartment is home to the correct-style trunk mat, spare and jack tools. The engine compartment is highly show-quality throughout. The previous caretaker completely restored the engine compartment; everything was restored or replaced, including a new wiring harness. The car is powered by its original matching-numbers L34 396/350hp V8 engine, which runs excellent. From the information gathered, the engine was never rebuilt. During the restoration, the engine was refreshed with new paint, external parts, seals and gaskets. It's equipped with correct original components, including the carburetor, distributor, alternator, radiator and all engine braces, bracketry and pulleys. The engine is coupled to the original matching-numbers Muncie M20 wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. The previous caretaker added a new clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing. The power is transferred to the recently rebuilt original matching posi-traction rear end with 3.31 gears. The undercarriage is nicely detailed throughout. The original floors were undercoated when the car was new. From the information gathered, the body has never been off the frame. This car is equipped with the F41 suspension package and power steering. The previous caretaker restored the suspension and power braking system. Everything underneath has been restored or replaced. This vehicle has been completely serviced and detailed, which is documented with an invoice that's included. 47,073 miles (title reads exempt). From the MS CLASSIC CARS Collection.
