Description

Summary

1 of 286 1970 Shelby GT500 fastbacks. This car is restored to the MCA concourse tailored standards.

Details

In 1969, Ford along with Carroll Shelby produced 2,157 GT500 Mustangs. Due to tons of competition from other Mustangs for that model year, some Shelby's went unsold. That year, the government allowed Ford to re-VIN the cars to the 1970 model year. In the 1970 model year, only 286 GT500 fastbacks and convertibles were produced. This car comes with all the factory Shelby stuff. This car was restored to be shown in the Mustang Club of America and the Shelby American Automobile Club national events. This car has competed in these events from 2003 to 2007. Since that time, the car has won 8 MCA Nation or Grand National Gold Awards. In 2004 and again in 2006, the car was shown at the SAAC National Convention and won Silver twice, just missing Gold by only a few points. At both National SAAC events, the car was judged by National Head Judge Ed Meyer. This is one of a few concours trailered cars to receive a concours Grille Medallion. This is in the 31-year history of the Mustang Club of America. This car is listed in the Shelby Registry. This rare Shelby has a numbers matching engine, transmission, carburetor, distributor and rear end. This outstanding muscle car came with some unique options which include the 428 CJ engine, pop/tilt wheel, intermittent wipers and the XHD suspension. The car also has date coded correct smog equipment, Ferria gauges, the Shelby-only racing shoulder belt and factory roll bar. The car has had a color change. It was originally Competition Red/Orange, but it is now red. I have documentation to verify all of the above claims. I have a copy of the Deluxe Kevin Marti Report, Shelby order form and Window Sticker. I have an appraisal from the BOSS Exchange and a statement of value from the SAAC signed by National Director, Rick Kopec. I have all the judging sheets from the national shows the car attended. I have photos of the VIN stamping in the engine block and the casting date in the block. I have inner fender rubbings which include the original 1969 VIN number. I also have pictures of the original rear axle tag and the automatic transmission tag, both of which are in place. In the sale of the vehicle, I will include all paperwork, professional photos and a DVD of the 2006 SAAC National Convention which includes this Shelby going around the racetrack at Virginia International Raceway.
