Details

This 1921 Oldsmobile Model 46 "Beverly Hillbillies" truck was built and signed by George Barris of Barris Kustom Industries. Aired on the CBS television network from 1962 to 1971, "The Beverly Hillbillies" remains one of the most popular and longest-running American TV series ever produced. Despite scathing critical reviews, the show immediately rocketed to the top of the TV ratings board, remaining at Number 1 ratings for the first two seasons and ranking among the Top 20 television shows for eight of its 9-season run. Additional accolades include seven Emmy nominations. Enjoying syndication for over five decades, the show's massive popularity also spurred a 1993 film adaptation by 20th Century Fox. In addition to the show's beloved ensemble cast, one of the biggest stars was the Clampett family's shabby but trusty 1921 Oldsmobile-based truck hauling their luggage, Granny's supplies and vittles, and providing regular transportation for the transplanted Ozark mountain family in their new Beverly Hills surroundings. Instigated at the request of show producer Paul Henning, this unforgettable jalopy was built and signed by its creator, George Barris of Barris Kustom Industries. Documented by Mr. Barris as one of five such vehicles built - in this case, as a Stunt and Exhibition vehicle, it was used in both the original TV series and "The Beverly Hillbillies" movie. Constructed using a 1921 Oldsmobile base and a vintage Ford truck chassis, this iconic TV and film vehicle is also known as the "HayWagon Jalopy" and includes authentic "mountain truck" exterior items fabricated in fiberglass or metal, constructed atop original wooden sections for stability and safety and including barrels of Granny's "rheumatism medicine," plus her rocking chair, wash tub and other homesteading necessities. Clampett family mannequins appropriately complete the presentation. In addition to its TV and movie use, this truck has been widely exhibited at rod and custom car shows throughout North America and high-profile venues, including the Hollywood Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg, TN, and the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, CA. This truck was also used to transport Grand Marshal Ken Squier of CBS Motorsports during one appearance. Former ownership includes noted collector Ron Pratte until January 2015. From The Dr. Stewart A. Berkowitz Collection. **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE**
