This 1964 custom-built golf cart is a re-creation of the "Bamboo Island Taxi" as seen on the popular "Gilligan's Island" comedy sitcom that aired from 1964-67 on CBS. Intended to transport the rich Mr. and Mrs. Howell, the Island Taxi was built by Bob Denver's Gilligan character, using indigenous items scrounged from the castaways' island home surroundings. During the series, Gilligan eventually drove it into the lagoon when Dr. Boris Balinkoff returned to the island, but it is unclear how the castaways retrieved it afterward. The vehicle surfaces again sometime later as Gilligan drives the Howells around the island, eventually crashing it into the ominous Kupaki Totem Pole on the island. This re-creation of Gilligan's Island Taxi was custom-built to order for Dr. Berkowitz by Razorfly Studios of Sylva, NC, and completed in mid-2022. Based upon an electric golf cart, the vehicle features bamboo stalks, matting and skirting, plus plenty of rope, lending an authentic "lashed together" look. According to the accompanying build invoice, the cart is the product of 100 hours of effort including research, design work and the build. From The Dr. Stewart A.
