Details

This 1968 Ford is a re-creation of the vehicle seen in the 1968 film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." As one of the most popular and endearing family movies of the late 1960s, the children's musical fantasy "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" propelled the already-famous actor Dick Van Dyke into superstardom, thanks to his brilliant portrayal of the widowed and unsuccessful inventor Caractacus Potts. Set in rural 1910s England, the two young Potts children discover the soon-to-be-scrapped wreck of a former champion racing car, igniting the fantastical story centered around the car, which is capable of traveling on the water and with rudimentary wings extended, even the air. In addition to its wonderful story, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" carries fascinating history, based on the 1964 children's novel "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car" by Ian Fleming, of James Bond "007" fame, with a screenplay co-written by Ken Hughes and Roald Dahl. Production was by Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli, who also produced the fast-growing "James Bond" movie franchise. In addition to Dick Van Dyke, the movie starred Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jeffries, Gert Fröbe, Anna Quayle, Benny Hill, James Robertson Justice, Robert Helpmann, Heather Ripley and Adrian Hall. Based on a 1968 Ford, this unforgettable re-creation of the vehicle seen in the smash hit 1968 film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" carries an undeniably vintage pre-WWI look and feel throughout and features vintage-style carriage lamps and a gorgeous wooden main body from the cowl to the rounded boat tail, complete with front and rear passenger compartments separated by a rear cowl, with the effect reminiscent of the fast and elegant wood-hulled boats of the era. Fittingly, a brass plate affixed beneath the dash bears the autograph of none other than screen legend actor Dick Van Dyke. From The Dr. Stewart A. Berkowitz Collection. **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE**
