This 1976 AMC Pacer is a re-creation of the Pacer seen in the 1992 film "Wayne's World." While American Motors usually operated with limited capital for new-model development, the company consistently delivered some of America's most innovative and distinctive automobiles of the 1960s and 1970s. By 1974, most of AMC's existing model lines were simply massaged and updated, yet seemingly out of nowhere came the fascinating new Pacer, advertised as "…the first wide small car." Built upon a trim 100-inch wheelbase and generous 77-inch width, the Pacer delivered big-car interior space with 30 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seat down. Amazingly versatile and quite advanced for the time, the Pacer was correctly advertised by AMC as "the first wide small car." Other Pacer highlights included exceptional visibility with a vast, but heat-attracting glass area, a longer passenger-side door yielding easy rear-seat access and a convenient rear liftgate with gas-filled struts. The Pacer was yet another styling and engineering coup for AMC, with design led by Richard "Dick" Teague, and by 1976, the Pacer's first full model year, it silenced the doubters as AMC's best-selling car line. Comical and enduring big-screen use of a certain Powder Blue-and-flamed 1976 Pacer as the "Mirth Mobile" in 1991's "Wayne's World" movie led many collectors, including Dr. Stewart Berkowitz, to seek one of their own. Purchased in July 2020 from Illinois, this 1976 AMC Pacer is powered by a 258ci inline-6 and column-shifted automatic transmission. Following acquisition, the Pacer was sent to Razorfly Studios in North Carolina for bodywork and paint, interior restoration and installation of a wide array of "Mirth Mobile" updates, including a faux sound system, wheels and miscellaneous prop pieces, including the custom candy dispenser, license plates, tape deck, cup dispenser, can crusher, soda-can dispenser, license-plate holder, side mirror and vinyl multicolor "flame" bodyside decals. Fit for any "Wayne's World" superfan or AMC enthusiast, this 1976 AMC Pacer is ready to cruise the strip or rock the crowd at Stan Makita's Donuts and the Gasworks on any given night with friends. From The Dr. Stewart A. Berkowitz Collection.
