This 1976 Pontiac LeMans is a re-creation of Sheriff Justice's patrol car as seen in the film "Smokey and the Bandit," circa 1977. In keeping with the freewheeling spirit of the 1970s, "Smokey and the Bandit" took millions of moviegoers on a fun and wild ride with Bo "Bandit" Darville (Burt Reynolds) and Cledus "Snowman" Snow (Jerry Reed), two fun-loving bootleggers attempting to illegally transport 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. Co-starring Sally Field and legendary entertainer Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Buford T. Justice, the film also marked stuntman Hal Needham's directorial debut. For many fans of the "Smokey and the Bandit" franchise, the cars were the stars, and while the Bandit and his '77 Pontiac Trans Am kept the police away from Snowman's 18-wheeler full of contraband, Sheriff Buford T. Justice relentlessly chased the scofflaws in a 1976 Pontiac LeMans police car that was shorn of much of its bodywork by the film's end. "Smokey and the Bandit" was a massive box office smash, reportedly earning some $127 million against a $4.3 million budget, becoming the second-highest-grossing domestic film of 1977 in the United States. It was a publicity bonanza for GM's Pontiac division, with the Firebird Trans Am earning strong sales, enhanced by the car's leading movie role. For its part, the intermediate LeMans also shared in the movie's success. This museum-quality 1976 Pontiac LeMans is presented as a re-creation of the Sheriff Buford T. Justice police car from "Smokey and the Bandit." Appropriately built at the Pontiac, MI, GM assembly plant, it is powered by a Code M 2-barrel 350ci V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Acquired by Dr. Stewart Berkowitz in February 2014, the LeMans is sure to generate attention wherever it goes, this replica of the Buford T. Justice police car will provide a great entry into many fun events, possibly including the annual Bandit Run after select preparation. From The Dr. Stewart A. Berkowitz Collection. **SOLD ON BONDED TITLE**
