-SALE PENDING- By 1971, the muscle-car era was coming to an end, and most manufacturers were franticly shifting their focus to meet emissions and fuel economy standards. When Oldsmobile continued the performance-oriented 442 model into '71, it would be the last year as a stand-alone model, as the following year it became just an option package for the Cutlass. Although all power was down across the board for all GM brands, the W-30 package was still available, making 350hp from a 455ci V8. The W-30 cars were very similar in terms of features and appearance to the 1970 models, sporting fiberglass hoods with scoops, performance upgrades on the engine, a wing on the rear decklid and the iconic red front fender wells. In total, just 920 cars left the factory in 1971 with the W-30 option, making them one of the lowest production years of that option package. This particular 442 W-30 coupe is one of the 920 that left the factory in 1971, finished in its original color combination of black with black interior. It is the recipient of a frame-off, no-expense-spared restoration to the highest standards. Featuring its matching-numbers 455ci engine, it retains all the correct W-30 components and is backed by the original 4-speed manual transmission. Helping put the power to the ground is a 3.73 posi-traction rear end. The like-new interior is well-optioned, with a console surrounding the floor-mounted shifter, a sport steering wheel, power trunk release and the Rally Pack gauges. The car comes with a stack of restoration receipts as well as a partial Build Sheet authenticating it to be a true W-30. This 442 is an exceptionally high-level restoration on a rare car in one of the most desirable color combos, making it a must-have for any serious muscle-car collection.
