Description
This radically smoothed 1938 Lincoln Zephyr was to be the first car of Boyd Coddington's return to the industry and became known as the "Lead Zephyr". Boyd began the build with a newly built Art Morrison Chassis. Once at the shop, Boyd's talented crew bolted up a Boyd Coddington front and rear independent suspension. To get the car on the ground an air suspension system was fabed in, necessary to get that slammed look the car required. To help bring everything to a stop Wilwood brakes were used, bolted to them are Boyd Coddington one-off wheels mounted on Goodyear tires. The heart of the Zephyr is a 500hp/430cid Ford backed by an A06 automatic transmission. With a rolling chassis ready, Boyd contacted Marcel and sons to shape a one-off body starting with nothing more than flat metal stock and a picture. With the newly formed body attached to its chassis the Zephyr was sprayed with Dupont Char-cool over Dupont Boyd Mellow Yellow. Once dry Gabe's Custom Upholstery stitched in the yards of tan leather and tan wool carpet to the interior and trunk. Once back at the shop the final details were seen to such as the I-did-it steering column, Boyd Coddington steering wheel and custom gauges. Completed almost 7 years ago, the "Lead Zephyr" is still one of the most recognized cars by Boyd Coddington.
