Lot #5013 - This car, built on July 20, 1968, at the Metuchen plant and sold new at Romy Hammes Ford South Bend, IN, is finished in its original colors of Acapulco Blue with a deluxe black interior. This exceptionally well-restored, concours-quality GT500 KR has been refinished not only to Mustang Club of America standards, but also Shelby American Auto Club standards, and is fitted with desirable options such as the 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, tilt-away steering column, and AM radio. Every component of this vehicle, from the correctly dated motor, to the original carburetor and drivetrain, is either original or correctly replaced. Included also is a Deluxe Marti Report documenting the build specifications and authenticity of this rare King of the Road, which has been driven less than 300 miles since restoration. In 1968 Ford produced only 1,571 Shelby GT500 KRs, making it one of the most collectible Shelbys ever made. Of these, 518 were convertibles and only 267 were equipped with 4-speed manual transmissions. Only 51 were painted in Acapulco Blue, making it a very desirable color for Shelby aficionados. This low-production Shelby embodies the best of the Ford and Shelby collaboration during the height of the muscle car era.
