Lot #1312 - Only 36 limited edition Dan Gurney Alligator motorcycles were handmade in 2002 in Dan's All American Racers shop. This bike is number 24. This beautiful dark metallic blue and pearl color scheme is the same as Dan Gurney's F1 Eagle race car and is not just another motorcycle. Startling in both appearance and specification, it features a radically low seating position. The name is due to the bike's long and low appearance and was chosen to reflect the North American nature of the species. Dan Gurney loves motorcycles, persisted with this idea for 26 years and designed, built and tested six prototypes. The Alligator is unique for its unconventional low slung seating position which allows for its low center of gravity which aids in handling. There were only 36 made because that was the number of his Eagle-Weslake Formula One car in which he won the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix. It has a modified Honda 4-stroke engine that is air cooled and fuel injected with 70hp and 50 ft/lbs of torque. Carbon fiber bodywork and chromoly frame. Dry weight is 320lbs. The top speed is 140 mph and goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. In 2008 Dan Gurney's shop completed the latest updates to the bike. Less than 700 actual miles.
